Teeth Straightening FAQs

  • Following an initial consultation, you will be provided with an estimate of the number of trays needed to complete your treatment which will give an estimate as to how long it will take. Our patients typically require 4-6 trays per arch and you should allow 10 days per tray, meaning only 8-12 weeks of treatment.

  • This is our normal treatment plan:

You come into the practice for an assessment, Photographs, impressions and any necessary X-Rays.

You come back a few days later for your new tray to be fitted.

One week later, you return for your next impression, your new aligner will be ready a few days later to collect or can; if preferred be posted to you.

This programme continues until the completion of your straightening.

  • Payment is due on each impression appointment.

The price for one arch (upper or lower) is £195.00 per tray.

If you are straightening your upper and lower arch, the price is reduced to £370.00 for each set of trays.

  • You will require retainers to keep your teeth in the finished position. There are two options we can discuss:

    • Fixed Retainer - Gold standard and recommended wherever possible. It is a thin wire fixture attached to the back of the teeth (it is very comfortable and cannot be seen).

    • Removable Retainer - A clear retainer to be worn during sleep. This is in addition to the fixed wire retention or instead of, if insufficient space for a wire.

Permanent wire retention cost £195.00 per arch. Removable Retainer £135.00

  • You can smoke with the trays in, but it is not recommended.

  • No, remove tray(s) for eating or chewing any food or snacks as they will stick to the tray.

  • If your tray is lost or broken, please book an appointment with us for a new impression ASAP to avoid any delays in treatment. Even a slight crack in the tray may cause issues with your treatment. We recommend wearing your previous tray to stay on plan for your course of treatment with minimum delays.

Broken/Cracked Tray from general use: No charge (as long as the broken retainer is brought along to the replacement appointment)

Lost Tray: £195 (cost of a new tray)

  • Yes, we are seeing more and more adults seeking out this option. This highlights the importance of permanent retention.

  • We provide a carry case for your tray to keep it safe when not in your mouth. We recommend keeping it in the case rather than wrapping it in a napkin that may accidentally be thrown away or eaten by your pet!

  • Whilst the treatment is not a painful process, there may be some temporary discomfort for the first few days of a new tray cycle.

This is not something to worry about as it is a sign that your tray is working and your teeth are moving into place.

  • Speech may be very slightly affected temporarily for some people as your mouth gets used to something new. This should only last for the first few days with your first aligner.
